This nursing home received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to point out its excellent health inspections in recent years. We gave them an A+ in this category. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this area most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that CMS didn't consider any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate threat to resident health or safety. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.

Another one of this nursing home's better category grades was in the category of long-term care. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B. It actually performed better than most nursing homes in this category. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 99.75124 percent of its residents, which is significantly higher than the majority of nursing homes. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. We found that this place had 2.7 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.

This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. Our nursing grade looks at the facility's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of skill of those nurses as well as the number of hours spent with residents. This nursing home provides 4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is better than average. In determining our ratings, we apply more weight to hours performed by more highly skilled nurses such as registered or licensed nurses. While this place excelled in terms of quantity of nursing hours, it lagged a bit in some of the subcategories that focused on quality. This place's nursing rating was hurt by its subpar performance in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers. In fact, we found that 14.6 percent of this facility's patients suffered from pressure ulcers.

This category is considered to be a reliable assessment of the facility's rehabilitation. This facility was satisfactory in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It offered a reasonable level of care from both physical therapists and registered nurses. Finally, we considered the number of patients who ultimately returned home from this nursing home. We found that 21.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually below the national average.
