Nurse Quality
On top of being a quality nursing home overall, this facility really excelled in nursing, where it received an A-. Our nursing score weighs a host of subcategories. The most important one is the number of hours nurses spent with patients. This nursing home provides an impressive 4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, this facility was also above average in each of the major quality measures we looked at in this category. It performed well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Long-term Care Quality
An additional quality feature for this nursing home is that it was awarded a very positive long-term care grade. Indeed, this proved to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a B+. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care typically provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. After looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is significantly higher than most nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this facility had 2.9 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. While this wasn't as favorable as most of its other scores in this category, this statistic may be skewed for some nursing homes based on the preexisting medical conditions of patients.
Facility Inspections
We also wanted to emphasize this facility's nearly flawless inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of B+ in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite insignificant. While this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple relatively minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we analyzed was short-term care, where we gave it a strong grade of B. This facility truly doesn't have any weak categories. Short-term care grades are often used to grade a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. In order to have quality rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide better levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. Finally, we considered the number of residents who were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 44.5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
