Facility Inspections
This nursing home's best category grade came in the category of government inspections. In this area, we awarded this nursing home a B. It outperformed most facilities in this category. Inspection grades account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better grades in this category typically have few severe deficiencies. This facility received 8 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that CMS did not deem any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.
Long-term Care Quality
The next best area we awarded this facility in any area came in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a B-. For prospective residents in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients, which is higher than the average nursing home. Unfortunately, this nursing home's hospitalization rate was less favorable. We found that this nursing home had 2.24 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
Short-term Care Quality
The next best area we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of short-term care, where we awarded it a B-. In computing our short-term care scores, we assess the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other types of therapists. This category is frequently a solid measure of a nursing home's rehabilitation. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The final datapoint we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 40 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.
Nurse Quality
The next area we looked at is nursing. We gave this facility a grade of B- in this area. The nursing grade consists of several data points, however, the main one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also considered some quality-based metrics. This place performed well in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In terms of the percentage of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this place outpaced the national average.
