To pair with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. Facilities that receive this type of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure patients are kept in good health. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. This place was also able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 1.52 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.

In addition, this nursing home also earned a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite insignificant. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

To complement its strong performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. Our nursing rating includes many subcategories, but the paramount one is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provided 2.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these datapoints as good measures of the caliber of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.

The last category we analyzed is short-term care. This nursing home was given a favorable short-term care rating in our assessment, with a grade of B-. Even though this isn't as impressive as some of its other category grades, this remains a decent score in that area. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to evaluate measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last metric we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 42.2 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.
