Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Even though this facility's overall score was not a highlight, it surprisingly received a very good score in long-term care. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B for that area, which is one of our better grades. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. One of the statistics we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccinations. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 89.68254 percent of its patients. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

We actually gave this facility a very solid grade in the area of inspections as well. We awarded it a B- in this category. We believe that one of the most important factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially focus on the severity of the deficiencies. While this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This facility's second least favorable category was short-term care, where it received a grade of just D in that category. This is a well below average grade. Our short-term care grade is typically employed to score a facility's rehabilitation services To provide highly graded rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to provide higher levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Based on its abysmal grade in this area, we were not shocked to learn this nursing home provided significantly fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other nursing homes. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This definitely was not a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 5 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The last category we scored was nursing. Unfortunately, we gave it an F in this category, which is a poor grade. Our nursing score assesses the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We consider both the levels of skill of those nurses as well as the amount of time spent with residents. This nursing home averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is well below average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing ratings. This nursing home fared well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
