Facility Inspections
In addition to being a strong nursing home overall, this place also excelled in our inspections category, where it earned an A. Not many facilities performed better in that area. Arguably the most important factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this category typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This facility was hit with 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies an imminent risk to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Contributing to its profile, this nursing home also earned a score of B+ for its long-term care rating. This is a well above average score in this area. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 79.24528 percent of its residents, which is somewhat lower than we expected. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, we were pleased to find place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.82 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility's third most favorable area ended up being its short-term care score, where it was given a grade of B-. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we look at a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This rating is generally a solid assessment of a nursing home's rehabilitation. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents that returned home from this nursing home and discovered this was this facility's strongest datapoint within this area. It performed well in this area with 56.5 percent of its residents returning home. Most nursing homes are below 50 percent in this metric.
Nurse Quality
The final area we scored was nursing. In that category, we awarded this facility a B-. Our nursing score considers several factors. The most heavily weighted one is the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents. This nursing home provides 3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures. Although this nursing home got docked a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in a few of these quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this area. This is often a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a protocol of moving a resident at least once a day.
