Short-term Care Quality
This facility received a favorable short-term care grade this year. We awarded them a strong grade in that area, with a B+. This is a notably better grade than the facility's overall grade and was a boost to its overall profile. Our short-term care grade is often used to grade a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To have highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must provide higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This nursing home is above the national average both in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents. These are generally good indicators of quality short-term care. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
Facility Inspections
This facility's inspection score exceeded its overall grade as well. We awarded them one of our better grades in that area, with a B. This is a notably better grade than its overall grade. Inspection scores account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. Nursing grades are tied to quantity of nursing care available. This nursing home provides 2.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also factored some quality measures into our nursing grades. This facility was relatively weak in two of the major metrics we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its patients' pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are typically reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care provided.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we assessed is long-term care. It received an F for this category, which is a very poor grade. This is clearly a major disappointment. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in long-term care it typically means the nursing home did not perform well in our measures relating to resident care. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. We were somewhat surprised to discover that this facility vaccinated a relatively low 64.57399 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this place actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 1.38 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.
