Short-term Care Quality
We also found that this facility excelled in our short-term care rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. Our short-term care grades are thought to be more critical for folks requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires additional highly-skilled nursing. This means not merely nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. This nursing home is the gold standard when it comes to skilled nursing staffing. The facility supplied about 50% more registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than the average nursing home. The last metric we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in Colorado in this area with 72.4 percent of its residents returning home.

A significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most skilled levels of nurses. We were very impressed by these figures. On top of providing high levels of nursing care, this facility also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. It performed as well as any nursing home in Colorado in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Long-term Care Quality
In the third area we assessed, this facility received quality marks in the area of long-term care. As a result, it was given one of our best scores in that category with a grade of of A+. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. In addition to providing very favorable levels of nurse staffing, this facility gave the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. This statistic is also far higher than the majority of nursing homes. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Facility Inspections
Turning to our inspection category, this facility also excelled in this area, where it received yet another A+. This made it one of the only nursing homes in Colorado to receive A+'s across the board. Our inspection ratings are based on several pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this category typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients.
