Short-term Care Quality
We awarded this facility an A in short-term care. Our short-term care ratings are based on the facility's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a broad spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of physical therapy per week to its residents. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the nation in this area with 66.7 percent of its residents returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most facilities.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an B. Our nursing grade looks at the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We consider both the levels of training of those nurses as well as the amount of time spent with residents. This particular nursing home provided 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
As it turns out, this facility only earned a grade of D for its long-term care grade, which is not an impressive grade. For patients seeking a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. We were optimistic to discover that this facility vaccinated 94.46367 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this place also wasn't as bad as we expected at keeping its residents out of the hospital. While it had 2.23 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted score was not bad due to it having some more complicated patients.
Facility Inspections
Turning the last category of government inspections, we gave this nursing home a score of D for our inspection category. This proved to be this facility's worst grade. We take a weak grade in this category very seriously. Our inspection scores account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. You should be more cautious when considering a nursing home with severe deficiencies on its inspection reports. This nursing home was hit with 2 deficiencies by CMS. The only positive thing we can say is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they posed a threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility also received 4 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.
