To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. Inspection ratings are tied to items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this category have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also was superb in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a score of A. Very few facilities performed better in this area. Facilities that receive this kind of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure residents are kept in good health. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 98.958336 percent of its residents, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia can be a deadly condition for nursing home residents so we like it when a facility doesn't take any chances. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in that category. The nursing score weighs a variety of subcategories. The most heavily weighted variable is the amount of time nurses spent with residents. This nursing home provided 3.9 hours of nursing care per patient per day. Roughly a quarter of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most highly skilled levels of nurses. Both are impressive figures, which typically correlates with quality care. Lastly, this place also excelled in several of the quality measures we assessed. With fewer than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category.
Short-term Care Quality
In our final category, we gave this nursing home a grade of A for our short-term care score. This topped off an elite report card. Our short-term care scores are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a wide scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. One reason for this nursing home's favorable score in this category is that it provides more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the number of residents that were able to return home from this facility. We found that it performed as well as just about any facility in this area with 56.3 percent of its residents returning home. Most nursing homes are below 50 percent in this statistic.
