With a population of 27,172 people, Riverhead, New York is a relatively small city. There are just 2 nursing homes in the city, which does not give you too many options to choose from. This place's nursing homes received a phenomenal city grade of A-, so what this city lacks in quantity, it makes up for by having high quality nursing homes. In fact, this city's city grade even surpassed the city grade of nursing homes in the local city of Smithtown. This is particularly impressive in light of the fact that we awarded those facilities in Smithtown a city grade of B+, which is a good grade in its own right. In addition to performing well in its overall grade, the nursing homes in Riverhead performed remarkably well in the area of inspections. In fact, some of its facilities received nearly flawless inspection reports this year. Consequently, the city received one of our best ratings in that area with an A+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite minor. We also awarded this city an A- in our long-term care category. Rounding out its quality profile, we awarded the city a B+ for its nursing grade and a B+ in short-term care. We really found Riverhead to be very competent in every category.
