Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ for nursing. There are quite a few subcategories within this category. Most of these subcategories reflect the quantity of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We also wanted to note the fact that this facility was awarded a dominant score of A in our short-term care area. In the area of short-term care, we strive to evaluate measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that 6.2 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

This facility has received near flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A- in this category. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This facility received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe. This tells you that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies an immediate risk to patient safety or health. A couple relatively minor dings are not something to panic about.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In the last category we scored, this facility received a very strong grade of B+ in our long-term care category. With this grade, the nursing home completed a very impressive profile. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly can be a life threatening health condition for nursing home residents so we prefer when a facility does not leave this to chance. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
