Facility Inspections

Grade: A

On top of performing well in its overall grade, this nursing home performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This tells you CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility is also strong in the area of long-term care, where it was awarded a grade of B+. It outperformed most facilities in this category. Facilities that receive this type of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure patients are well cared for. One of the criteria we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccinations. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 98.53896 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a reliable method to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations for the senior population. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B. Nursing grades are heavily correlated with levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Our final category is short-term care, in which we awarded this nursing home a grade of C in this area. Short-term care grades are commonly used to measure a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. In order to have quality rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to provide higher levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from this facility. We found that 4.1 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below the national average.
