Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with a strong overall score, we gave this facility an A+ for inspections. Inspection scores account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this area typically have very few severe deficiencies. This place was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that CMS didn't consider any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. This proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an A+. When computing our nursing scores, we factor in both nursing hours and the training levels of the nurses. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also gave this nursing home a of A+ for its long-term care grade. Facilities that excel in this category typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients out of the hospital. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In our final area, we awarded this nursing home an A+ for its short-term care score. This rounded out a very strong report card. In calculating our short-term care grades, we analyze the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This category is generally a solid assessment of a facility's rehabilitation. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last measure we assessed in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
