One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Inspection grades are based on several datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this category have very few deficiencies on their reports. Facilities that receive this type of grade in this category typically provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure patients are kept in good health. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 98.66221 percent of its patients, which is far higher than the majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

This facility also was strong in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a score of A. Only a select group of facilities performed better in this category. In determining our short-term care scores, we size up the facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This score is often a useful measure of the facility's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final statistic we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.3 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

The last category we analyzed was nursing. In that category, we awarded this facility an impressive grade of B. Our nursing rating looks at the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of training of those nurses as well as the amount of time spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these statistics as reliable measures of the caliber of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
