Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We also want to emphasize the fact that this facility was awarded an impressive grade of A in our short-term care area. In calculating these short-term care scores, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to formulate a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. We weren't able to track down information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. The final metric we considered in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that 7.4 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

The third category we analyzed is long-term care. Adding to its dominant resume, this facility also performed well in that category. In fact, it received a of A- in that category. If you are looking for anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care grades. One of the factors we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this facility submitted information about vaccinations. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

The final category we graded was nursing, where this facility was awarded a grade of B+. This topped off an elite report card. Very few nursing homes received a B+ or better in every category. The nursing grade considers many factors. The most heavily weighted one is the amount of time nurses spend with residents. This nursing home provides 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these metrics as reliable measures of the quality of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
