Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

This facility received a strong overall score as described above, but we especially wanted to emphasize its nearly flawless inspections in recent years. We awarded it an impressive grade of A+ in this area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are quite minor. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home also was awarded a favorable long-term care grade. Indeed, we gave it an above average score of B in this category. If you are seeking anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care scores. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 88.99083 percent of its patients, which is somewhat less than we expected. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next category we analyzed is short-term care. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B-. In the area of short-term care, we try to qualify indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Unfortunately, it does not appear that this nursing home submitted registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. The final measure we considered in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 4.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The last category we looked at was nursing. We awarded this facility a C in this category. When computing our nursing ratings, we factor in both nursing hours and the training levels of those nurses. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Lastly, our nursing ratings also consider some quality-focused statistics. We especially like to look at the percentage of residents who experienced pressure ulcers and major falls. These statistics are indicators of the quality of nursing care, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
