Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of faring well overall, this nursing home also earned nearly flawless government inspections. Therefore, it received one of our best grades in that category with an A+. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities with higher scores in this area typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this place had some deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition, this facility was given quality marks in the area of long-term care. Consequently, it received one of our best scores in that area with a grade of A+. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents, which is much higher than the majority of nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

Another reason we rated this nursing home so highly is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. We looked at the qualifications of nurses working for the nursing home, as well as the quantity of hours the nurses worked with residents, in calculating our score in this area. This particular nursing home provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Turning to the last category, this facility was awarded a high-end short-term care rating. We gave it an A- in this category, resulting in this facility receiving straight A's. In calculating our short-term care grades, we analyze a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other types of therapists. This area is frequently a reliable measure of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
