Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of being a great nursing home overall, it also received A+ government inspections recently. Its inspections are virtually perfect. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this category typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also would like to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home was awarded a top-shelf score of A- in our short-term care area. In computing our short-term care scores, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The objective is to devise a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final item we considered in this category is the number of patients that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.4 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

This facility is also strong in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. In determining our nursing grades, we factor in both nursing hours and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The final category we looked at is long-term care. This nursing home was given a better than average long-term care score in our assessment, with a B-. Even though this isn't quite as impressive as many of its other category grades, this is nevertheless a decent rating in this category. If you are seeking anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care ratings. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. We were pleased to find that this facility vaccinated 98.3871 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Lastly, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
