Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also found that this facility excelled in our short-term care rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. Short-term care ratings are critical for people in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a vast range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 7.3 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Adding to its impressive category scores, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received an A. Not many nursing homes performed as well in this area. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in that category. We looked at the qualifications of nurses employed by the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of time the nurses spent with patients, in computing our grade in this area. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

In our final area, this nursing home also received an impressive long-term care score, with an A. This topped off a very favorable profile. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in long-term care it is a good sign for patient care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses and aids. One of the statistics we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccinations. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a proven method to minimize unnecessary hospitalizations for the elderly population. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
