Nurse Quality

Grade: A

On top of earning a great overall score, this nursing home also received an excellent nursing score, with an A. In computing a facility's nursing rating, we look at the quantity of hours nurses spend with patients and the level of skill of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

On the list of its many impressive scores, this facility was awarded a strong short-term care score. In fact, we awarded it a score of A in this category. Short-term care grades are typically used to measure a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To provide good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to feature higher levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 5.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

This facility also received excellent government inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our best grades in that category, with an A-. Inspection scores weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area tend to have very few severe deficiencies. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

In the final area, we gave this nursing home an A- for our long-term care grade. This topped off a very strong report card. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients out of the hospital. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
