Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

We want to point out that this facility really outperformed its overall grade in the category of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best scores in this category with an A+. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Places with better grades in this area most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this place had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This tells you CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Additionally, we also wanted to note that this facility received positive long-term care marks in this assessment. We awarded them one of our higher grades in this area, with a grade of B+. This turned out to be the facility's second highest grade. Facilities that receive this kind of grade in this category tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure residents are well cared for. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next highest category we gave this nursing home in any category came in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of C. Our short-term care scores are based on the nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a wide scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. We were not able to track down registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this nursing home. The final statistic we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 5 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The next area we scored is nursing, turned out to be this facility's worst category. We gave this facility a D in this category. This really is one of just a couple of dings on an otherwise strong report card. In calculating our nursing grades, we factor in both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This place offered only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. On top of receiving below average marks for total nursing hours, this place was less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and found that this facility was at approximately 150 percent of the national average in this metric.
