Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it earned a very impressive short-term care grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home an A. Short-term care scores are based on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a vast range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final item we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We found that 6.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

This facility has received near flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A in this category. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this category most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This particular nursing home received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A- in our nursing category. In determining our nursing ratings, we look at both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the training levels of the nurses. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Moving on to the fourth area, this nursing home also performed admirably in the long-term care category. We awarded it an A- in this area. This wrapped up truly elite profile. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 94.389435 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly is often a deadly illness for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a facility doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
