Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

This facility received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to point out its excellent government inspection reports in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A- in this category. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with better scores in this area most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This means CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's short-term care grade is one of its better grades. The facility was awarded a B- in this category. Our short-term care scores are critical for patients in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. This means a broad scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than a typical facility. The hope is that this does not adversely affect the quality of care. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the number of patients that returned home from the facility. We found that just 5.6 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The third area we analyzed was long-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a decent grade of C. In the area of long-term care, we assess the amount of services offered by a nursing home, rather than more sophisticated services. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Lastly, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

This nursing home's worst category is nursing, which is the last area we scored. For this category, we gave this nursing home a grade of D. Our nursing rating includes a variety of subcategories. The most heavily weighted variable is the number of hours nurses spend with residents. This place averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is an alarmingly low total. This place also had abysmal marks in some of the quality-based metrics to pair with its weak nursing hour totals. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and we were quite disappointed. This nursing home was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this statistic.
