Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Although we gave this nursing home a weak overall rating, we actually gave it a fairly respectable score in the category of inspections, where we gave it a B-. This was better than its other category grades. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection grades. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being relatively minor. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This means the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's long-term care grade turns out to be one of its more favorable features. The nursing home was awarded a grade of B- in this category. In the category of long-term care, we assess the amount of services offered by a nursing home, rather than more sophisticated services. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients, which is a very respectable datapoint. This facility was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of C for that category, which is not a bad score. We scrutinized the licensure of nurses employed by the facility, in addition to the quantity of hours the nurses spent with patients, in computing our grade in this category. This nursing home provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a relatively low total compared with most other nursing homes. Finally, nursing ratings also factor in quality-based assessments, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is often an indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls could be avoided if a facility provides enough nurses aids to assist its patients.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This nursing home's weakest category was short-term care, which is the last area we looked at. For this category, we awarded this facility a grade of D. Our short-term care grades are meaningful for prospective residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates additional skilled nursing. This includes a broad range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients that returned home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
