Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Nursing ratings are mostly associated with the nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as employing a protocol of moving a patient at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

This first-rate nursing home also fared very well in the area of short-term care, where it received a grade of A+. Very few nursing homes fared better in this area. Our short-term care ratings are considered to be more meaningful for people requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires additional skilled nursing services. This includes not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final statistic we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We found that 6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This facility also was given a strong long-term care score. Indeed, this ended up being this facility's third strongest category score. In that category, this facility received a grade of A. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. One of the criteria we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccines. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 96.73913 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a proven method to minimize unnecessary hospitalizations for the aged 65 and up population. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B

In the final area we looked at, we found that this nursing home received a solid government inspection report this year as well, with few major dings from government inspectors. As a result, it received a decent grade in inspections with a B. This facility really didn't have any major weak links. Our inspection grades are based on items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this place had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
