Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

The main reason this facility received a decent overall grade is its excellent health inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our better grades in that area, with a grade of A+. This is a much better grade than the facility's overall score, which was decent but not in the elite range. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better scores in this category usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. While this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. A couple relatively minor dings aren't the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

We also awarded this nursing home a strong score in long-term care. This facility received a grade of B+ in this category, which is one of our more impressive scores. Long-term care scores in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 87.76224 percent of its residents, which is a bit lower than we anticipated. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Another strength of this facility is its favorable grade in nursing. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of D. We assessed the levels of nurses employed by the facility, as well as the quantity of hours those nurses spent with residents, in calculating our score in this area. This nursing home averaged only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing scores. This nursing home fared well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Switching gears to the fourth category, we awarded this nursing home a D in short-term care. This was the nursing home's least impressive category rating. Unfortunately, this score hurt the nursing home's overall profile to a certain degree. Short-term care grades are commonly used to assess a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To provide highly scored rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to have higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
