Facility Inspections

Grade: A

On top of receiving a strong overall score, this nursing home performed well in inspections, which is based on its recent inspection reports. In fact, we gave it an A in that category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be relatively insignificant. This place was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This indicates that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate risk to patient safety or health. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its dominant profile, this facility also excelled in our short-term care category. In fact, it received a score of A- in the category. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to qualify indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Unfortunately, we were not able to find registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this facility. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 6.1 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- in that category. Our nursing score weighs a host of factors. The most important variable is the quantity of hours nurses spend with patients. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In our final area, we gave this nursing home a grade of A for its long-term care rating. This finished off a very favorable report card. Facilities that do well in this category tend to provide patients with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
