Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

The primary reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it earned an excellent inspection score. Its inspection score was far superior to its overall score. In the inspections category, we gave it an A+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection ratings. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Based on this, we had a generally favorable view of this facility's inspections.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This facility also received a favorable score in our short-term care category. We awarded this nursing home an above average grade of B in this category. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we look at the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This category is often a meaningful assessment of the nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. It doesn't look like this nursing home provided registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. The last statistic we considered in this category is the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that 5.9 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This facility was awarded its next most favorable category score in the area of long-term care. We gave this nursing home a C in this category, which is a respectable grade. Our long-term care grade assesses a nursing home's assistance with daily living rather than the highly skilled therapy or healthcare services that are critical to a skilled nursing facility. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 99.48718 percent of its residents, which is better than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

Moving on to our last area, this facility really did not perform very well. With an abysmal grade of F in nursing, this is this facility's poorest grade. Our nursing grade considers a variety of factors. The most heavily weighted factor is the amount of time nurses spent with residents. This particular place offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This figure is quite a bit below average. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this place also did not fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these statistics hurt this facility's nursing rating quite a bit.
