Facility Inspections

Grade: A

This facility earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to point out its excellent inspection reports in recent years. We awarded them an A in this category. Our inspection ratings are tied to several items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this area typically have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Although this place had some deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home received its second most favorable category score in the area of short-term care. We gave this facility a B- in this area, which is a respectable score. Our short-term care grades are considered to be most meaningful for patients in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically requires higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this place provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.3 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Turning to the category of long-term care, this nursing home was given just a D in this area. Nursing homes that do not fare well in long-term care often do not provide as much nursing care and also may be lagging in a few of the areas of routine healthcare services we looked at. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 89.34708 percent of its patients. This is pretty significantly below what we expected. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This is its best score in this category.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Turning to the last area, we gave this facility a D for the area of nursing. This is the nursing home's worst category grade. When computing a nursing home's nursing rating, we look at the amount of time nurses are seeing patients as well as the levels of training of those nurses. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. On top of ranking below average in nursing hours per resident, this facility also had poor marks in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This place was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in both of these metrics. This is a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. These scores helped pull down this facility's nursing rating significantly.
