Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We gave this facility an A- for our long-term care rating. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. One of the factors we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccines. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 99.439255 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a reliable method to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations for the elderly population. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

This facility also performed well in inspections. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in that category with an A-. Inspection grades are tied to several items located in the a nursing home's government inspections. Nursing homes that excel in this area have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Turning to another strength for this facility, it also received an elite nursing rating. In fact, we gave this facility an impressive grade of D. Our nursing rating consists of several subcategories, but the main consideration is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing scores. This nursing home fared well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The next area we graded is short-term care, proved to be this facility's least impressive category. We gave this nursing home a D in that area. This is one of the few weak links of a strong profile. In our short-term care rating, we seek to forge a fair barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze a facility's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. We found that this facility was below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the data we considered. The final statistic we looked at in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.1 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar metrics sunk this nursing home's short-term care score.
