Nurse Quality

Grade: A

On top of being a first rate facility overall, this facility also excelled in nursing, where it received an A. Nursing scores are tied to nurse staffing levels. This facility provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home also excelled in the category of long-term care, where it received a grade of A-. Very few facilities received a better grade in this category. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. After assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is far higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home also received excellent inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our best scores in that category, with an impressive grade of A-. Perhaps the most significant factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this category most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. It does not appear that we have information on deficiency's for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The next area we scored was short-term care, in which this facility was awarded a B. This actually turned out to be this facility's weakest area. A facility could be doing a lot worse when it's worst score still beats out most other facilities. Short-term care scores are based on the facility's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a vast spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final item we looked at in this category is the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that 4.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
