Facility Inspections

Grade: A

One of the reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it earned a very impressive grade in inspections. In fact, inspections turned out to be its best category. In that area, we gave this nursing home an A. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This facility was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies an imminent risk to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We also would like to point out the fact that this facility received a high-end score of A in our long-term care area. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it typically means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 98.33887 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents healthy. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility is also above average in the area of short-term care, where it received a score of B+. It performed more favorably than most facilities in this area. In the category of short-term care, we attempt to qualify indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

The last area we looked at was nursing, where this facility received a B+. This wrapped up an elite profile. Few facilities earned a B+ or higher in each of our categories. In computing our nursing scores, we weigh both staffing levels and the training levels of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these statistics as good indicators of the quality of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
