Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a first rate nursing home overall, this nursing home also excelled in the category of nursing, where it received an A+. Few nursing homes fared better in this area. The nursing grade analyzes a handful of subcategories, however, the paramount one is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home provides 0.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place California in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as having a protocol of moving a patient at least once a day.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

This facility also received an A+ inspection score, making it one of the few nursing homes to receive multiple A+'s in our categories. Inspection grades account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category generally have few severe deficiencies. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This tells you that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

An additional strength for this facility is long-term care, where it received an A+ grade. This is flat out as strong as it gets in this category. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. After considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 96.22642 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is more than the average nursing home. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

The fourth area we assessed was short-term care, where this nursing home received a grade of A-. This rounded out a very impressive report card. Few nursing homes earned an A- or better in in each area we assessed. Our short-term care ratings are based on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This means a wide range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final metric we assessed in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
