Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

To pair with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in this category tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure residents are kept in good health. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia tragically can be a life threatening health condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a facility does not leave this to chance. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

This high end nursing home also dominated in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a score of A+. Only a small group of facilities performed better in this area. Our short-term care scores are likely more important for people requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically utilizes additional skilled nursing services. This includes not merely nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we considered in this area is the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 5.9 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

This first-rate facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A+. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. We assessed the licensure of nurses at the facility, as well as the quantity of hours the nurses worked with patients, in computing our score in this category. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition, this facility also received excellent government inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our best grades in that area, with a score of A. Few other nursing homes earned an A- or better in every single category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection ratings. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively minor. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
