Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

While this facility's overall grade was not bad, it really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A+ for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that CMS did not deem any of these deficiencies to be an immediate risk to patient health or safety. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Another one of this facility's better category grades was in the area of short-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B+. It actually outperformed most nursing homes in this area. Short-term care ratings are based in part on a facility's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a wide spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who eventually returned home from this facility. We found that 5.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Moving on to another strength for this facility, it also earned an elite nursing rating. We gave this nursing home an impressive grade of D. There are a variety of factors within this grade. Many of the subcategories reflect the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing ratings. This facility fared well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these metrics to be good measures of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The final area we rated was long-term care, which ended up being this nursing home's worst area. We gave this nursing home a D in that category. Sadly, this score hurt the facility's overall grade to a certain degree. When facilities receive a score in this range in long-term care it typically means the nursing home did not perform well in our quality measures relating to resident care. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 76.38037 percent of its patients. This is many points below what we expected. To our surprise, this place was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.
