Facility Inspections

Grade: A

While this nursing home's overall grade was decent, it really fared well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This facility was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that the government inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to be an immediate threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Additionally, we awarded this facility a grade of B+ in our long-term care category. This is one of our more favorable grades. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care typically provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 94.823524 percent of its patients, which is better than the average nursing home. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Another issue is the F this facility received in the category of short-term care. Our short-term care scores are meaningful for prospective residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a wide range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. With its weak rating in this category, we weren't surprised to find this nursing home provided substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The final metric we looked at in this category is the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 4 percent of its residents returning home. This was well below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

Turning to the final area, this nursing home really did not fare very well. Due to a bottom of the barrel grade of F in nursing, this is its poorest category. Nursing ratings are based in large part on quantity of nursing care available. This particular place averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This figure is well below the national average. Unfortunately, this facility also had terrible scores in some of the quality-based metrics to go along with its weak nursing hours. For starters, we looked at the percent of residents sustaining pressure ulcers. This facility was at more than double the national average in this statistic.
