Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this facility received an A+ inspection rating. This score is based on its recent inspection reports. An A+ in this area is one of the best complements we can pay to a nursing home. Inspection scores are tied to many pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this area have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. We were not able to find deficiency data for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition, this facility was given strong marks in the category of short-term care. For this reason, it was given one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A+. Our short-term care scores are presumably more important for patients in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally utilizes more skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final metric we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that 6.9 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Moving on our third area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our long-term care rating. This is a very impressive rating. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Unfortunately, we were not able to track down information about this nursing home's vaccination rates. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

Switching gears to our final category, this facility also excelled in the nursing category. In fact, we awarded it an A for that area. This rounded out truly elite report card. Nursing ratings are largely tied to a nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these metrics as good indicators of the quality of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
