Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

On top of receiving a strong overall score, this nursing home fared well in short-term care. We awarded it an impressive grade of A for that category. In the area of short-term care, we strive to qualify measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients that were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 6.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received an B+. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home was hit with 10 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This means that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent threat to resident health or safety. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe made us feel better about this inspection report.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Adding to its profile, this facility also earned a grade of B for its nursing rating. This is a well above average score in this category. Our nursing score consists of quite a few factors, most of which are associated with nursing hours. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of turning residents more frequently.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next category we rated was long-term care. We gave it an F for this area, which is a bottom of the barrel score. You should not simply disregard a facility as a result of one poor score though. For prospective patients looking for a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. After assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 98.907104 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is better than the majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
