Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Although we did not rate this facility favorably overall, we want to point out its nearly flawless government inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A in this category. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. It is typically in your best interest to avoid places that have too many severe deficiencies. This facility received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that CMS didn't deem any of these deficiencies to be an immediate risk to resident safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this facility's second highest category is long-term care. As it turns out, with a D in this area, it still fared relatively badly. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 93.58289 percent of its residents. This is slightly below what we were hoping for but still a reasonably acceptable figure. Surprisingly, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This was its best feature in this category.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

Unfortunately, we gave this facility an F for its nursing grade. Our nursing grade is largely based on the nursing home's nurse staffing. This facility averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is an alarmingly low total. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Turning to the next area, this nursing home did not fare well in this category either. Due to a poor grade of F in short-term care, this is just about as terrible as it gets. Short-term care grades are important for prospective residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates more highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a wide range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Given its grade in this category, we weren't stunned to find that this facility was well below average in terms of the number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its residents based on the data we looked at. The last datapoint we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 3.2 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar metrics doomed this nursing home's short-term care score.
