There are two facilities in Pierre, South Dakota, which at least gives you a few choices. We gave this city a city grade of B for based on the quality of its nursing homes. As it turns out, Pierre is one of the top ten rated cities in South Dakota. We were also pleased to find that this city did not have any weak links in any of the four major categories. This city received a great overall grade, but we also wanted to emphasize that some of its nursing homes received nearly flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded Pierre an impressive grade of A- for this category. Inspection ratings are tied to many datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that excel in this category typically have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. The city also earned one of our better grades in our short-term care category, with a grade of B+. Lastly, Pierre received a B for its nursing grade and a B- in the area of long-term care.
