Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this nursing home has received near flawless inspections in recent years. We gave them an A+ in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection grades. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some end up being relatively minor. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

This nursing home also received an A+ for its long-term care grade. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure residents are kept in good health. One of the statistics we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccinations. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a reliable method to minimize unnecessary deaths for the elderly population. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also would like to emphasize the fact that this facility received a first-rate score of A- in our short-term care area. Our short-term care ratings are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a broad range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last measure we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 5.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The last area we graded was nursing, where this nursing home was given a grade of B. Although this ended up being its worst category score, this is still a favorable rating. The nursing grade includes many factors. The most heavily weighted one is the quantity of hours nurses spent with residents. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of turning patients more frequently.
