Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

On top of being a first rate nursing home overall, this facility also fared well in the area of long-term care, where it received an impressive grade of A+. Few facilities fared better in this category. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care tend to provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility performed remarkably in our short-term care category. We gave them an elite score of A+ in this category. Short-term care grades are meaningful for residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires more skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a vast scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last metric we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that 5.5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

Continuing with its amazing performance, this facility also earned an A+ inspection score. This is based on its recent government inspection reports. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This place received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to cause an imminent risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

In our last area, we awarded this nursing home an A+ for our nursing rating. This finished off a very favorable report card. Nursing grades are based largely on nurse staffing levels. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some quality-based measures in this category. This place fared well in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. By way of illustration, in terms of the number of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this facility performed better than the national average. This is generally an indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented with better nursing care.
