Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Inspection ratings account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this area usually have very few severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Another quality feature for this facility is that it received a favorable long-term care grade. Indeed, this proved to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this facility a grade of B. Facilities that receive this type of score in this category typically provide consistent around the clock care to ensure patients are well cared for. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 98.05014 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia can be a dangerous ailment for nursing home patients so we like it when a facility doesn't leave this to chance. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This facility is also above average in the category of short-term care, where it was given a grade of B. It performed better than most facilities in this area. Short-term care ratings are crucial for people needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes more skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a broad scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. We weren't able to locate information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The final area we rated is nursing, which turned out to be this facility's worst area. We awarded this facility a D in this category. Naturally, this score hurt the nursing home's overall profile to some degree. The nursing grade consists of a handful of subcategories, most of which are based on levels of nurse staffing. This facility averaged only 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. Although this facility didn't excel in the area of nursing hours, it surprised us in a few of the quality-based assessments in the nursing category, such as avoiding major falls. This place was better than average in this metric, which is one redeeming quality we found in this category.
