Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Even though we were not high on this facility overall, we awarded it a B+ for our short-term care rating. In calculating our short-term care scores, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our objective is to create a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final item we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents that were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 5.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

We awarded this facility a respectable grade in the area of nursing as well, with a grade of B-. In determining our nursing scores, we weigh both staffing levels and the skill levels of the nurses. This particular facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This figure is far below the national average. Lastly, our nursing ratings also factor in quality-based metrics, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this facility actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is typically an indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls could be avoided if a facility supplies enough nurses to assist its residents.

Facility Inspections

Grade: D

This nursing home did not receive favorable inspection reports in recent years. In fact, it only received a grade of D for its inspection grade. One of the most critical factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. We would pay close attention to the severity of those deficiencies. This facility was assessed 7 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only positive thing we found is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that indicate that they posed a threat to patient safety or health. Finally, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received large government fines in recent years of more than $100,000. This generally means that a facility's bad track record has been an issue for more than one year.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final category we graded was long-term care, where this facility was given an abysmal score in this area as well. It received an F in this area, which is obviously a major concern. When facilities receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means the nursing home did not perform well in our measures relating to resident care. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to a relatively low 32.553192 percent of its residents, which is not a very encouraging sign. To our surprise, this facility was actually decent at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.
