Facility Inspections

Grade: A

On top of being a quality facility overall, this nursing home excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an A. Few nursing homes performed better in that category. Our inspection grades are tied to datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this category have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this place had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it was awarded a very impressive long-term care score. Indeed, long-term care is its second most impressive category grade. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of A-. Facilities that excel in this category typically provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. After considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 99.5 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. While this didn't quite match its scores in some of the categories discussed above, this is still a decent score. Nursing scores are largely associated with a facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics. Although this facility got docked a bit for nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in a few of these quality-based metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared very well in this area. This is typically a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a protocol of turning patients at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This nursing home's least impressive area was short-term care, which is the final area we scored. In this category, we awarded this facility a grade of just D. Our short-term care scores are presumably most meaningful for those needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally utilizes more highly-skilled nursing services. This means not only nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. It appears that this facility was subpar in multiple staffing areas we focus on. In fact, it supplied fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most nursing homes. The last item we assessed in this area is the number of patients that returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4 percent of its patients returning home. This was well below the national average.
