Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

While we graded this facility very poorly overall, it received a somewhat respectable nursing grade this year. We gave it a B- in that area. Nursing grades are based in large part on quality and quantity of nursing care. This place provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a relatively low total compared to most facilities. Lastly, our nursing grades also consider quality-based metrics, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this facility performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is usually an indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls could be avoided if a facility supplies enough nurses aids to assist its residents.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

Remarkably, we gave this facility a grade of B- for its short-term care grade, which isn't a bad grade. Our short-term care ratings are believed to be more important for individuals in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, this place was below average in terms of its level of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 4.6 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Facility Inspections

Grade: D

This nursing home did not receive favorable inspection reports in recent years. In fact, it only received a grade of D for its inspection grade. Our inspection ratings account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. You should be more cautious when considering a facility that has severe deficiencies on a recent inspection report. This particular facility had 7 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only favorable thing we found is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they caused a risk to patient health or safety. Lastly, this facility was flagged by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We prefer to avoid facilities with this designation. Please do your best to find an alternative nursing home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next area we graded was long-term care, where this nursing home was given a very poor grade in this category as well. Unfortunately, we gave it an F for this area, which is definitely a major disappointment. For patients looking for a permanent residence as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are a key measure. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is higher than the average nursing home. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
