Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of being a strong nursing home overall, it also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually perfect. Inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A-. Our nursing score is primarily tied to a facility's nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of moving residents at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home also excelled in the category of short-term care, where we awarded it a grade of A-. Very few nursing homes fared better in this category. In calculating our short-term care grades, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to formulate a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The final category we analyzed was long-term care. In that area, we gave this facility an impressive grade of B. Nursing homes that do well in this category tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. After considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
