Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

On top of performing well in its overall grade, this facility received high marks in our short-term care rating as well. It received our highest grade in that category with a score of A+. Short-term care ratings are critical for patients needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes additional skilled nursing services. This means a wide range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who returned home from this nursing home. We found that 6.5 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing rating. In that category, we awarded this facility an A+. Our nursing rating focuses on the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of training of the nurses as well as the amount of time spent with residents. This facility provided 0.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by having a system of turning patients at least once a day.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition, this nursing home also received excellent inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our best scores in that category, with a grade of A. Arguably the most important factor we look at in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This means CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

The fourth area we looked at is long-term care, where this facility received a grade of B+. This finished off a very strong profile. Very few nursing homes received a B+ or higher in all four categories. Facilities that do well in long-term care typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 99.64789 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is too frequently a deadly ailment for nursing home patients so we like it when a nursing home doesn't leave this to chance. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
