Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

Although this nursing home's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it fared pretty well in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B+ for that area, which is one of our better scores. Inspection ratings account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid places with a list of severe deficiencies flagged. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Included in this nursing home's litany of rock-bottom grades was its F in the area of long-term care. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in long-term care it generally means the nursing home did not perform well in our measures relating to patient care. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. We were somewhat surprised to discover that this facility vaccinated just 61.16505 percent of its patients against pneumonia. To our surprise, this nursing home actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Another unfortunate development is the F this nursing home received in the area of short-term care. Short-term care ratings are based on a nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a wide scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. Considering its score in this category, we weren't surprised to discover that this nursing home was well below average in terms of the quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we looked at. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The last area we looked at was nursing, where this facility received a very poor grade here as well. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F for this area, which is definitely somewhat alarming. The nursing rating considers a host of data points. The most important factor is the amount of time nurses spend with patients. This facility provided a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This statistic is quite a bit below the national average. In addition to its below average nursing hours, this facility also received suboptimal marks in several of the quality-based measures we considered in calculating our nursing scores. We found that a higher percentage of this nursing home's residents suffered falls leading to major injury.
